Pink Lady
By David Pearce
This painting was done from a reference photo that I took at Mackerel Cove on Bailey Island, Maine. I had been thinking for some time of painting this popular Harpswell site but had not settled on a composition. The cove is big, busy and varied, with lots of interesting features like boats big and small, lobster traps, buoys, a beach, and myriad docks and floats. One spring day I happened on this little lobster boat, beached off Harpswell Islands Road near the Johnson Field Preserve. I loved its tilt and offbeat colors -- including yellow bow lines and a pink bulkhead. Composition puzzle solved!
